The 27th edition of the Lake Como Crossing to swim as every year took place on the last Monday of July, on 31/07/17, with over 600 participants attracting many curious and supporters of the tradition.
The event was organized by a well-rounded organization made up almost exclusively of volunteers, who, without profit, joined together to make the crossing unique this year.
The non-competitive event took place at nightfall on Lake Como when, from the pontoon of the Canottieri di Moltrasio, the swimmers were taken with rubber boats on the opposite bank to Torno. From here athletes alongside amateurs and children throw themselves together swimming for Moltrasio. This year over 600 swimmers have plunged themselves into the water to face the 1,000 meters of distance between one shore and another. The entire route was followed by rescue boats ready to intervene at a request for intervention by any swimmer through the raised arm.
The first to cross the finish line was Davide Elli who took 13 minutes from shore to shore.
Thanks to the collaboration of Canottieri di Moltrasio after the swim we all have dinner together in piazza dell’imbarcadero.
The Crossing has a symbolic value to remember the true value of sport, ie that of not being just a single technical result, an exaggerated agonism, a show of commerce; sport has an extraordinary and fascinating charge capable of uniting humanity with free courage, filling every single life with adventure.
La Traversata is for everyone, an opportunity for union everyone is invited to face it as best they prefer that is armed with armrests or on a surfboard with a diving suit, the only purpose is fun. For a moment during the sunset everything stops, no noise of boats or motorboats, the water is filled with colored balloons and the banks return to belong to people.
