During the Easter Holidays there is an event I really can’t miss. For the Easter lunch I usually meet my relatives and then, in the afternoon, we go to visit the Mostra delle Camelie.
The Mostra delle Camelie is part of the tradition of many families living on the lake, and every year on Easter Sunday and Monday they go to Palazzo Gallio in Gravedona to participate this event, born exactly 45 years ago.
At the event are exposed many blooming Camellias, which inhabitants and flower nurseries take from their gardens. Everyone can vote for his favourite flower and, at the end of the festival, it is proclaimed the best Camellia. Besides the Camellias there are stands with handcrafts products of our territory as honey, candles, essences, and various work of art.
The entry is free and activities and laboratories for adults and children are often organised. In some past editions were also held balls in traditional customs or chamber music concerts.
Furthermore, is always an opportunity of visiting Palazzo Gallio, its halls, terraces with beautiful views on the North Lake and its luxuriant garden.
Mostra delle Camelie sets off the touristic season on the Como Lake and, if the weather is good, it is the perfect chance to enjoy the first warm rays of sunshine in the open air and wandering on the lakeside.
For the locals like me is beautiful to enjoy this event, it takes us back to our tradition and we can meet each other as a community. Every year, I bump into friends I hadn’t seen for years, and it is always lovely to meet each other again and catch up on our lives.
Obviously, after the visit an ice cream on the lakeside or an happy hour is a must.
I love these moments: our little village livens up and rediscovers its traditions, involving the community and allow people to have a good time together.
