The smell of roast chestnuts, a crackling fire, carpets of multicolour leaves.
A well-known 90s song says “The summer is magic” … yes, but the Autumn even more!
In this fascinating season the leaves of lindens, chestnuts and planes paint the slopes with warm and bright colours. Reflecting on the lake, these shades create a unique landscape that during October and November enchants me every time I look out the window.
Then, the crisp air makes me hungry…luckily there is the “Rassegna Selvatica”! A unique occasion to sit down in one of the more than 100 participating restaurants, that know how to enhance the local products with typical dishes.
In particular, don’t miss the mushroom- and chestnuts-based dishes, two typical products of the season. On sunny days I like walking in the wood looking for them.
With the end of Summer, the life on Lake Como doesn’t stop: this period offers the opportunity of many new adventures, also with bad weather. Have you ever been on a funicular? You can reach Brunate by means of the cable railroad, it is a perfect destination for an open-air trip, such as the little villages of North Lake Como, made even more suggestive by the Autumn colours.
Walking on the cycling path a few meters from the lake, the sound of dry leaves creaking under my feet take me back to childhood.
And in case of rain? If Summertime is the perfect time to visit gardens and flowering terraces, now there is nothing better than exploring the interior of historic Villas like Villa Balbianello in Lenno, Villa Vigoni in Menaggio, Villa Carlotta in Tremezzo and Villa Fogazzaro Roi on the Italian shore of Lake Lugano.
But when I want to take a step back in time I prefer museums, as the End of the WWII Museum in Dongo, the International Museum of Vintage Boat in Pianello, the Civic Museum in Musso, the Moto Guzzi Museum in Mandello and last but not the least the Fort Montecchio in Colico.
