Holidays on Lake Como: the real protagonist is water
Visit Lake Como: what to do while here? If you want tranquility, beauty and nature this is the right place. For every need you have, Lake Como offers different opportunities. From the lake to the mountains, crossing local traditions and sport activities, it is possible to discover the magical Lake Como. Today I want to describe the territory through topics, the water is the first one: the main waterways, walking path on the lake, sports, peculiar lake areas and the discover of the area through the water.
The so called Alto Lario (northern side of Lake Como) has 2 main rivers, Adda and Mera. There are many pedestrian walks following the lake coast: Ponte del Passo - Domaso - Gravedona ed Uniti (Gravedona) - Dongo - Musso - Pianello del Lario - San Siro (Acquaseria) - Menaggio. The Alto Lario hidden gems are ready to be discovered, the Nature Reserve and SIC Pian di Spagna and Lake Mezzola is one of the most important wetlands in the Alps and a very important resting place (in spring and autumn) for birds. This protected area is formed by the small Lake Mezzola and a major agricultural area of Pian di Spagna, an alluvial plain formed by the flood of the river Adda. The territory of the Centro and Alto Lario is ideal for windsurfing, sailing and kite surfing. All necessary equipment for water sports and sailing is available in many equipped centers seated in Domaso, Musso and Gera Lario. Windsurfing and sailing schools offer courses for children/beginners, as well as advanced courses; numerous and prestigious sailing clubs are offering facilities for this sport. During the summer months it is frequent to see international regattas and championships. Hydrofoil (fast Como - Colico service), ferry (car transport service between Cadenabbia, Menaggio, Bellagio and Varenna) and boats (slow shipping) are the main kind of transports that will bring you a unique experience to discover Lake Como.
