Lory’s garden returns to discover the beauties of the Lake District with Villa Erba in Cernobbio, one of the most important villas on that branch of Lake Como.
Originally Villa Erba was a monastery but was bought by the Peluso family, already owners of Villa d’Este. The property was transferred to Luigi Erba, brother and heir of Carlo Erba, one of the major pharmaceuticals of the time, who built a villa representing the prestige and status of the family.
The project was entrusted to Angelo Savoldi and Giambattista Borsani; The building is spread over two floors and has a square plant with large stairs leading to the lake, an entrance porch and a large panoramic tower typical of this period. The interior and exterior decorations were entrusted to Angelo Lorenzoli and the frescoes at Ernesto Fontana.
In those years the Grass hosted great artists and the villa was the center of intense cultural and worldly life. Inherited by her daughter Carla, who married Duke Giuseppe Visconti of Mondrone, was the summer residence of their son, the great director Luchino Visconti. It is said that I record back then in the last years of life to mount the latest film, the famous Ludwing.
The villa was then bought by a public consortium that created a congressional exhibition center.
In recent years, the Villa d’Este Competition was organized, taking advantage of the Villa Erba areas; The event resounded internationally with vintage cars from all over the world with the most innovative automotive concepts
In 2000, the film was filmed – the defense of Luzin by Marleen Gorris. In 2005, Gwen Stefani chose her as a set for her cool music video. In 2005 I took a stage at Anastacia live at last tour.
