IL Giardino di Lory returns to the discovery of the beauty of the Larian Triangle as the Grona Mountain.
The gravel is located in the municipality of Plesio and consists of limestone rocks from the top of which you can admire an unparalleled panorama; With its 1685 meters look 360 degrees from the nearby Lake Como to much of the Alpine Arc. On cloudy days it is also possible to see the Apennines to the south. To the north the tip of Bellagio stretches between the two branches of the lake, surrounded by mountains, to the south the hills Brianzole, the plain and the Appennines. A cross was placed on top of the mountain with two radio antennas and a trigonometric point of the Geometric Military Institute.
Menaggio’s refuge was 1383 m above sea level on the eastern side of the rocky peaks. This is a great place to eat on the route between Grona and Bregnano, from which you can also have a view over Lake Lecco and the central part of Lake Como.
The three routes are suitable for beginners as well as experts thanks to the ferrata, the normal or the straight route.
Along the path leading to Bregnano you will find a fresh spring perennial at 1623 meters, nearby the church of S.Amate.
Mountain is also important from a geological point of view as the “Grona Line” is a low-angle inverse geological fault also from a regional point of view. The fault connects the northern crystalline base with the southern sedimentary soil crossing the mountain range of the Lepontine Alps.
From the middle ages and centuries later, man began to gradually eliminate the vegetation, which mainly comprised beech trees, to obtain firewood and mulch grasses, regularly cut and fertilized to produce hay. All the ridge is still vegetation-free today. Throughout the area you can find mountain pastures where livestock was carried during the beautiful season; There is also the cheese-making toll booth, and the riviera nevra where preserved food is perishable by snow.
