Il Giardino di Lory back to the discovery of the beauties present on that branch of Lake Como; Today we are on the shores of Lake Lugano in Porlezza, a country surrounded by green mountains, a destination for excursions and walks. Porlezza is a metropolitan resort destination in the summer months of many tourists in particular Dutch, German and Swiss. On August 16 at the San Rocco celebrations there is the traditional fireworks show on the lake. Porlezza is also famous because it is possible to find the pieve dedicated to San Vittore, one of the fifty-seven medieval churches of the ancient Diocese of Milan. The church of S. Vittore, buried in the landscaping of the seventeenth century, reappeared as a result of excavations since 1966. Of historical interest is the hamlet of Cima, which has maintained a typical medieval structure with remains of ancient walls and fortifications.
A few kilometers from the village, in the direction of Menaggio, you can visit the Lake of Plan, the natural reserve and site of Community importance of the European Union, and, going to the Val D’intelvi, the caves of Rescia. These natural caves have been formed over the centuries by the action of limestone; Are the only tourist caves of the kind in Lombardy. The route is made up of 7 different caves that are joined together by tunnels and stairs built at the beginning of the last century. From an opening in the mountain you enter a submerged world where there are small waterfalls and brooks, lying completely surrounded by impressive stalactites and stalagmites. The path is illuminated and, thanks to all the precautions of the case, is suitable for both young and old. Through a natural opening in the middle of the path you can admire the gorge where the Santa Giulia waterfall, which is 70 meters high, is broken.
These caves, though small, represent a natural jewel of Lake Ceresio, Val D’Intelvi and the entire Como Province.
