Visit Lake Como: Villa Carlotta
I love the springtime because with the good weather you can walk on our trails again, go cycling around the lake and ... visit the sumptuous historic villas that adorn the shores of Lake Como with their gardens!
One of these is in Tremezzo, Villa Carlotta is an eighteenth-century villa, inside which there are beautiful works of art by Antonio Canova and Berthel Thorvaldsen. It is surrounded by a vast botanical garden with a huge variety of different species of Camellias, Azaleas, tropical plants, Hydrangeas, Citrus. By walking you can immerse yourself in the colours, sounds and scents of nature!
The villa is huge but sober, on the front there is a fountain surrounded by bright green well-kept hedges. The access from the front is accompanied by a series of stone stairs that go up the facade. Every time I walk up them, I feel like a duchess visiting the palace, and as you go up the view is truly spectacular. Looking at the lake, in front of the villa stands out in a deep green stain the peninsula of Bellagio and in the background the heights of the Lecco shore. The green of the slopes, the blue of the lake and the light blue of the sky combine with the multi-coloured shades of flowers all to be discovered along the paths traced inside the park.
Inside, the villa shows its dual nature of historical residence and museum: on the ground floor are exhibited various works of art, including a copy of the sculpture "Amore e Psiche" by Canova. Every year I come back to see it and I always stare open-mouthed contemplating it for a long time, trying to catch the smallest detail. On the upper floor, however, there is a bright gallery and multiple rooms, retaining the original furnishings of the 800.
For an even more evocative experience and to fully enjoy the panorama of our lake, I suggest you get to Tremezzo by boat.
